Miri and her fish.

Miri and her fish.

This fish pictured was the first of 6 fish that Miri caught yesterday. We went fishing with Jerry and Tricia and started it off with a great picnic prepared by them. We had a lot of fun and Miri didn't want to leave when it was time to go. She was really into the whole experience and didn't hold back from anything. She wanted to bait her own hook with the worms ( I couldn't let her do anything that dangerous on her own though) and she wanted to get the hook out of the fish herself. "Sorry Mr. Worm" is what she said whenever a worm was hooked :)
She also released the fish on her own, holding them with a wet towel to protect the fish's scales and not harm them too much. All the fish we caught were a type of Brim, perhaps Bluegills but the wikipedia pictures don't quite match up.
We should be fishing again next Saturday when Miri and I plan on camping overnight at Lake Sylvia. Miri is so excited about it that she's already started packing! I better get started on the packing list...

Got Sleep?

Got Sleep?

I've counted 1024 friggin' sheep so far and not a single yawn. Geez, I hate nights like this! I thought that if I distract myself with my BlackBerry for a while before trying to get that elusive shut-eye, then maybe one of those sheep will finally be carrying a bottle of sleeping pills, or gin, or a sledge hammer...

Oven cleaning time.

Oven cleaning time.

I was getting ready to clean one of the ovens yet again and realized that I couldn't help but to document this for the future. I've must have poured out a hundred gallons of chicken grease by now. It's crazy how much of that stuff they generate in a single day. It gets tossed in the smelliest mini grease dumpster in the back of the store and some service comes by to pick it up every now and then. I've heard various stories about what it gets used for, usually lipstick or other cosmetics. I don't know for sure though :)

Picked up at the airport

Picked up at the airport

This was the start of an amazing weekend in Calgary. I was only there for 2 nights but made the most of it. After Janelle and Joel picked me up at the airport (with the car already packed for camping) we went and visited Grandma at the nursing home and Grandpa at the hospital. (Uncle Rex, Dad and Cecille were also there.) I was very lucky to have got the chance to visit with them again. We then headed out to the mountains for a night of camping. I really missed those mountains! A friend of theirs, Christain, joined us for a cool night by the fire. After breakfast then next morning, Janelle and I cleaned up our rooms some and packed things away. After that, it was on to the Calgary Winter Club for Dad and Cecille's reception. That was a great night, with some great conversations. I also got to see some old friends of the family (the Guiterrez - damn... somehow I didn't end up with a picture of them). The next morning, it was breakfast, another quick visit with Grandpa (Thinking about it tears me up - I had a great talk with him.) and on to the airport. It was all over way to fast, but I made the most of every minute of it. It was great having that time with Janelle. I want to do it all over again! (Heck, I'd even move back there!)

Us on a hike

Us on a hike

Miri and I had a fun day yesterday. After church (where there was no electricity) we flew a kite, played at a playground and went on a Miri-led hike.
