Stef caught yet another one of those great pictures that stands out in my mind. This is definitely on my favourites list and I can't stop looking at it! Yesterday morning Stef took Miri to the Waffle House for breakfast. Miri loves to prepare our coffee's for us whenever we go out for breakfast. Here she is drinking her juice and stirring her mommy's coffee after having poured in cream and sugar. It is a great picture of a great moment and luckily Stef's camera phone took a good quality shot here. I can even hear the juke box music in the background. Stef always makes sure she has quarters on hand when visiting the Waffle House and Miri loves to put them into the juke box and make music selections (such as the traditional selection of "My Girl").

spinny dress
Miri received a package in the mail yesterday and it was a great surprise! Her Grandma sent her two spring dresses that she made herself! When I got home from work I saw two dresses on the couch that I thought Stef had bought at a store. I was amazed when I realized that they were the ones Mom had made!

I remember that Mom use to sew when I was little but it has been a long time since. She just bought a new sewing machine last week and, from the look of the dresses, she hasn't forgotten a thing about sewing. The quality of the dresses are fantastic and they look great on Miri. She loves to spin in them! :)
Thanks Mom/Grandma!

Birthday Weekend
What a weekend... Miri is now 3 years old! She's grown so fast that it really stuns me at times. She's not our baby, nor our toddler. She's now our preschooler! We had a great weekend celebrating her birthday and it was a lot of fun as Miri had a lot of anticipation for it and appreciated everything that we did. The great weekend ended with a fantastic dinner and party at Miri's Mimi & Popop's on Sunday night.

On Saturday we got up and had breakfast at home for the last time with our two year old. Miri and I then headed to The Wonder Place for a day of fun and play while Stef stayed home to try to finish off a cold. We had all kinds of fun there before we headed back home for lunch and a nap. Once Miri woke up from her nap, we went back to the Wonder Place for a little while longer before heading out to shop for a few things needed for the party the next day. We met up with Stef at her parents house to leave what was needed for Sunday's party then went to Miri's favourite restaurant for dinner. Which restaurant? Luby's! Whenever we ask Miri where she'd like to go she usually suggests Luby's, and when we go there she'll chant "Luby's! Luby's! Luby's!" while were in the cafeteria line. :)

The next morning we woke up to the greeting of a 3 year old preschooler! After getting ready we took her out to IHOP for a birthday pancake breakfast as we did last year. She really enjoyed her large pancake with a whip cream happy face decorated with chocolate chips and cherries. With bellies full, we then made our way over to the Little Rock Zoo to greet a few animals. This is also a tradition repeated from last year. This year we got to take a train ride (as pictured above) and ate a lunch before heading home for a nap.

During Miri's nap, Stef labored over Miri's birhtday cake. The mix (Pilsbury's Funfetti) was chosen by Miri at the store and, along with baking that, Stef made a fantastic home-made chocolate fudge icing. Stef really poured her heart and soul into making the cake and icing it. A month or two earlier Miri had asked for a "chocolate zoo cake with Mommy, Daddy and Miri walking". So the pressure was on to not only make a great cake but correctly decorate it as well. Stef really delivered as the cake was fantastic and everyone had to struggle to not have seconds (some didn't bother with the struggle and just went for it.) Once Miri woke up we drove over to her Mimi & Popop's with the chocolate masterpiece nervously held in my arms. When we got there (safely with the cake) Miri and I sat down to watch some of her favourite movie - Cars!

With all of the guests present, and the cheeseburgers ready, we all sat down to enjoy dinner and have a birthday party. Once the cheeseburgers were polished off and out of the way, we moved on to the next phase which is probably Miri's favourite. Out came the perfectly decorated cake (with zoo animals and Mommy, Daddy & Miri) and we all sang "Happy Birthday"! Miri loved it and all the presents that followed. Thank you to all who sent something from out of town, we wish you could have been there with us to share in the fun and delicious cake!

Camping Out
Now that the weather is quite pleasant, we decided to have a bit of fun last Friday and camped out in the backyard. Miri was so excited! We had talked about it during the week so there was a lot of buildup to the event. Miri was a lot of help in getting things set up. She helped to unfold the tarp and she held it down in the wind. Then after having the tent unrolled, she helped to push the poles through and raise the tent up. At that point she couldn't help but want to get into the tent, so I took off her shoes and put her in. From inside the tent she then helped to direct me in getting the rest of it finished.

For dinner, we had a "pacipalo" night. (Munchies and finger food.) In keeping with the camping feeling, Stef set up our little portable charcoal grill and got it started. What did we do with it? Well... we had S'mores of course! Earlier in the day Stef and Miri went out back into the woods and found 3 good sticks for marshmallow roasting and Stef whittled down some points on the end of them. This dessert wasn't just a hit with Miri, but with all of us. :)

Once it was bed time we all got settled in the tent; Stef and I in our sleeping bag and Miri in her portable Dora bed. The excitement was so high that it took a long while to settle down. :)

After a few more pictures and some rolling around, we finally got back to our spots and eventually fell asleep... until 3am that is. Miri woke up with a pretty bad croup cough and had a hard time breathing. She had been fighting off a bit of a cold, but the cold dry air turned out to be hard on her. Since we were just a few steps from the house, we took her inside to breath in some steam from a hot shower and Stef called the doctors just to be on the safe side. Miri got better fairly quickly and fell back to sleep in her room.
Despite the ending, it was a lot of fun and we'll be doing it again soon before it gets too hot. Miri was also a great big help in taking down the tent the next day. She wasn't happy about putting it away but felt good in knowing that we'll be sleeping in the backyard again soon.
The next round of excitement will be this weekend when Miri turns 3 on Sunday. She's been anticipating this for a long long time! :)

hello, friend
Crystal has found a new perch in the last couple of weeks. She loves to get behind the blinds and sit on the front window sill downstairs to look out the window. She's always there watching us when we're outside playing around, and that is often, now that the weather is good!

Housepants
Over the last couple of years Stef has taken lots of pictures and some of them are ones that are burnt into my memory. This picture is the latest of that category. Of course credit goes to the subject of the shot as well. :) I just love how Miri looks in her new housepants, replicating her Daddy's evening look. This is also one of those pics that hits me as to just how much Miri has grown and matured. Great shot Stef!

Miri Teaches Us How To Drum
Miri just loves drums. Whenever we're at the music store she wants to play with them and whenever we're at Mimi & Popop's she wants to play with her Mom's drums that are still in Stef's old room. And as you can see in the video here she loves to play with her Mom's electronic drum kit. In this video she's giving us all a drum lesson and ends it with "That is how you do it, ok?" :)

Mom's (Grandma's) Christmas Display
I've always loved the Christmas decorations that Mom has put together over the years... especially the winter villages. I'm quite flattered that my family and I are part of this very cool snowman display. Miri loved seeing Frosty the Snowman everywhere we went this season!

Miri's Start in Photography
Miri got her own digital camera for Christmas from her Mimi & Popop. This is a picture she took of her Mommy taking a picture of... um... this is about to go in circles, but you get the idea. They are taking a picture of each other! :)

Dear Santa...
Christmas was a lot of fun this year. Miri had plenty of anticipation for the day and couldn't wait for Santa to visit us! Stef and I took her to the mall a couple of weeks prior to Christmas and she sat on Santa's lap, gave him her wish list and told him that she was a good girl this year.

On Christmas Eve we packed up a change of clothes, left Crystal to guard the house, and headed over to Miri's Mimi & Popop's for a holiday sleepover.
After having a great dinner that Stef prepared, Miri got Santa's cookies and milk ready and left him a note. (Pictured above.) Then it was off to bed.

In the morning Miri woke up and sadly told her Mommy "Oh No! I forgot to wake up and see Santa!". After being assured that you are not suppose to see him, we then got ready for the big event. We went downstairs for the traditional stairway photo and then went to the tree to see what Santa left us!

Miri LOVED what Santa left her (Bob the Builder Lego set and a Lightning McQueen remote control car) and what she received from everyone else too.
Overall, despite the start of a cold for Miri, we had a fantastic Christmas morning!

Crystal the Wonder Cat!
On December 16th, 2006 our family expanded. We adopted Crystal from Maumelle Friends of the Animals and she was 16 weeks old at the time. She's a very affectionate and playful cat that has a fun crazy streak, and she has taken to her new home and family very well. She's very happy to have found us and we are very happy to have found her. I can't believe she hasn't even been with us for 3 weeks yet... she's already such a strong and permanent presence in our house. :)
We love playing with her and snuggling with her and look forward to having her around for a long time!

Home Sweet Home
Hmmmm... Is it 2007 all ready? You mean I didn't post ANYTHING to this blog at all in 2006? Wow!
Nothing really happened since the last post anyway... well... other than the fact that we MOVED to Little Rock, Arkansas. :)
Miri is now close to her Mimi and Popop (my in-laws) and it has been a fantastic year for that. I managed to land a great job at Navigator Telecommunications and Stef and I found our castle that is perfect for us. (pictured above, and taken by Stef)
I know I have a whole year to blog on and I'll get to it, but for now I'll post this to get things started.
More soon... :)
